Hello Ward 8,
I am writing today to tell you about an opportunity to contribute your gently used items to a worthy cause and, by doing so, possibly free up space in your garage to store your new trash cart.
Hazelwood's Green Committee is sponsoring a neighborhood pick up for Valley Industries Thrift Store, by appointment, from November 10 through November 12, 2011. The mission of Valley Industries is to "provide meaningful employment to adults with developmental disabilities." They operate a sheltered workshop in Hazelwood which employs hundreds of area residents who might otherwise have trouble finding employment in the marketplace. The thrift store helps provide funds to support that mission. The staff at Valley Industries also finds time to be good members of the community, by supporting other local business and charity events. I see them everywhere.
By donating your gently used items to Valley Industries, you support a great local cause and you help the environment by allowing for re-use of items that might otherwise end up in a landfill. And we're making this as easy as possible for you, because your items will be picked up from your home at a time that is convenient for you.
The Green Committee is conducting this neighborhood pick up in Ward 8 and the immediate surrounding area as a pilot program to see how well it works, so please pass the word to your neighbors. If you would like to stop by the Thrift Store, it is located at 143A James S. McDonnell Blvd., just east of the intersection at Lindbergh. They are open Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It is fun to shop there. To learn more, go to www.valleyind.net
Okay, so here are the details on how to participate:
Select your items to donate, then send an email to: ValleyThrift@valleyind.net
In the email, indicate how much needs to be picked up. For example 2 boxes, or 10 boxes, 5 bags of clothes, or 3 pieces of furniture etc… Clearly mark the boxes or bags "Valley Thrift". Mention preferred days / times that we can try and accommodate. If you can put the items in a covered area, such as a front porch or perhaps an open garage, that would save time for the volunteers who are picking up the items, so they don't have to knock on a door.
If you prefer to drop off your items at the thrift store, you may do so. There is a 24 hour drop building on the right side of the thrift store building marked “Valley Industries Thrift Store After Hours Donation Drop Off”. You can drop off items there anytime.
If you have questions, please use the valleythrift@valleyind.net email address.
Thanks,
Mary Singleton,
Hazelwood Ward 8 Councilwoman
